Driver Approval Requirements

We at Omni strive to create a better rider and driver experience. In order to become a driver on our platform, you must meet the requirements below.

01 — Driver Requirements

  • Be at least 25 years of age.

  • Have a valid California driver's license.

  • Hold an active California TCP (Transportation Charter-Party) permit. This is the legal operating authority that allows you to provide pre-scheduled paid rides in California, and it's required for every driver on Omni.

  • Have a clean driving record.

  • Pass a background check.

  • Have a smartphone that is compatible with the Omni Driver app.

The following checks are performed to keep our community safe:

  • Criminal History Check (current)

  • Criminal Background Check

  • Sex Offender Registry Search

  • SSN Trace

  • Global Watchlist Search

02 — Vehicle Requirements

  • Standard: 2016 model year or newer

  • SUV: 2018 model year or newer

  • Premium: 2020 model year or newer

Vehicles must typically be registered under the driver's own name. If you operate under a fleet or company TCP permit, your vehicle may be registered to that entity instead — contact us to confirm eligibility.

  • Must have four doors and a minimum of five seatbelts.

  • Must pass any vehicle inspection required by your city or state.

  • Must be well-maintained, clean, and fully functional.

  • Stretch limousines are not eligible.

03 — Insurance Requirements

Every driver submits a Certificate of Liability Insurance (ACORD format) before their first trip, meeting CPUC minimum coverage requirements.

Before signing up, talk to your personal auto insurance provider. Driving commercially without disclosing it to your insurer can result in your personal policy being canceled. This conversation is also a good opportunity to identify any coverage gaps and confirm what you need to purchase.

04 — Activation Requirements

Before your account can be activated, you'll need to complete a background check[CONFIRM: and drug test — please verify this is part of the actual process] and submit the following documentation:

  • California Driver's License

  • Active TCP Permit

  • Commercial Auto Insurance (ACORD Certificate of Liability)

  • Vehicle Registration

  • Vehicle Inspection Report

  • Background Check Consent

  • Background Check Results ($21.40 processed via HireRight — the only upfront cost to join Omni. Start here)

  • Profile Photo

You'll also complete:

  • Driver Safety Training

  • Driver App Tutorial

A vehicle inspection, background check are required before your account can be activated; these are not included with registration.
