Getting Started as a Driver

What are the requirements to drive with Omni?

Last updated 13 days ago

Omni works with professional, independently permitted drivers. Our requirements keep every trip safe, reliable and comfortable for riders. They also protect the drivers who meet them.

Applications that don’t meet these requirements can’t be approved. The most common reasons are an expired or missing permit, incomplete or outdated documents, an ineligible vehicle, or a background check that doesn’t clear.

Permit requirements

You must hold one of the following in your own name:

  • TCP permit: An active California charter-party carrier (TCP) permit, for pre-scheduled trips.

  • Taxi permit: An active permit from your local taxi licensing authority, for on-demand trips.

Omni doesn’t hold operating authority or issue permits. You drive under your own permit, and you’re responsible for keeping it active and meeting its requirements.

Vehicle requirements

  • Four doors, with room for riders and luggage

  • Clean, fully operational and well maintained

  • A working seat belt for every passenger

  • A current vehicle inspection report from a qualified third-party shop

  • Standard and SUV: 10 model years old or newer (currently 2016 or newer)

  • Premium Standard and Premium SUV: 8 model years old or newer (currently 2018 or newer)

Your vehicle type determines your service level: Standard, SUV, Premium Standard or Premium SUV. A qualifying vehicle makes you eligible for that tier from day one.

Vehicles that don’t meet these conditions, or don’t match the documents submitted, will not be approved.

Driver requirements

  • Age: You must be 25 or older.

  • License, registration and insurance: Your driver’s license, vehicle registration and insurance must all be current and valid — commercial auto insurance on an ACORD certificate for TCP drivers, or proof of insurance meeting your local taxi requirements for taxi drivers.

  • Background check: All drivers complete a background check through HireRight before approval, and again every year.

  • Photos: A profile photo and a photo of your vehicle showing the front plate.

  • Safety training: Complete the in-app driver safety training before your first trip.

  • Driver agreement: All drivers sign Omni’s Driver Technology License Agreement and agree to our Zero Tolerance Policy.

Keeping your account active

Your permit, insurance, registration and inspection all have expiration dates. Upload renewed documents before they expire so your account stays active. We’ll send reminders as expiration dates approach.

If your application wasn’t approved

  1. Review the permit, vehicle and document requirements above.

  2. Fix any issue noted in your rejection notice, such as an expired document, an unreadable photo or a missing upload.

  3. If your background check is the issue, contact HireRight directly to review or dispute your report.

  4. Upload your updated documents in the app, then email support@rideomni.com to request another review.
